Clubs and Projects
Activities
Special projects provide opportunities for young people to develop and learn new skills in citizenship, alongside social development activities including, arts, music, sport and interaction with other groups. Young people in these groups are actively involved in the planning and delivery of the youth work curriculum.
Special Projects- ages 14 to 21
In Youth clubs there is programme based around the youth work curriculum and young people are encouraged to be involved in its planning and content.
Youth Clubs - school years 7 to 9
Young people choose to use youth service provision. They do so for many reasons - to meet friends, to have fun, to spend time in a safe environment, to take part in specific activities, to develop projects with other young people, to build relationships with adults, or to get help and advice. In turn, youth workers, together with young people develop a programme of activities which promote personal and social development, which are enjoyable, educational and challenging.
All play clubs, youth clubs and most building based special projects have a membership with contact details and relevant medical information held on computer file or as paper records.
Membership
The staff in all our clubs and projects work under the control and supervision of the Department of Education. All appointments (including supply workers) are subject to Police checks.
Management
The Department's Policy for all Off Site Activities applies to all excursions and activities conducted off-site, that is, away from the usual centre or meeting place of the group. The nature of such excursions and activities is very diverse, ranging from walking in the hills to visits to Superbowl to kayaking at sea. The Policy defines activities as either High Risk or Low Risk and gives information and guidance on safe practice, organisation and accountability. All off site activities must be approved in advance by the Youth Officer. General visits to other youth clubs, which are undertaken at various times of the year can be approved termly or annually.
Off Site Activities
Play Clubs- school years 4 to 6
Good play clubs offer a range of activities through a well organised programme and often include games and crafts. In addition many clubs organise trips and visits. Sessions are generally 1.5 hrs and have a minimum staffing ratio of 1:15.
